Yes! IT IS FRIDAY!!!! Friday's are a glorious thing; you can do some school work, relax, stay up late, and SLEEP! Sleep= also another glorious thing. Today I only had two classes: Seminar and Physics. I also had my first physics quiz today...it wasn't that bad. I think I got a problem or two wrong, but not too bad. High school physics was WAYY WAYYYYY harder. So I am extremely thankful.
We finished Project 1 this week in Design 1! I already learned so much from this project! We had to make installations or "sculptures/structures" in an outdoor environment. We were allowed one manmade product, two natural materials, and one "adhesive". However, there needed to be a purpose, focus, etc. in which we were trying to emphasis. So, we found this really cool area of trees (five trees) that kind of enclosed around this "Lone Rock". So our concept first started out as sheltering this "Lone Rock". But later morphed into the fact that this "Lone Rock" has energy that expands outward, from the heart of this area of trees. With this concept in mind, we created these triangular structures out of sticks and yarn. As you get further away from the rock, the energy expands outward, making the triangular structures' density and height increase. So we oriented these series of triangular structures so that when you walk across one of the main paths on campus, you walk "through" our installation.
All in all, the more I understood this project, the more I loved it. Now our next project is to make a shoe out of cardboard. But, we aren't making it out of single faces, but we have to "slice" it into layers. We will make four different models: one cutting horizontally, one cutting vertically, one with horizontal and vertical lines, and one made out of any material we want. Thank goodness this is a two week project, but I'm sure it will fly by so fast and I'll want more time.
As far as exploring around and off campus, I went to H-Mart for the first time ever, this past Friday. Anna, one of my roommates, has a friend who can drive and he took us! It was a lot of fun! :) I stocked up on ramen...yeahhh Freshman 15. Tonight I may go to First Friday, which is an art sale, I think. Or I might go to the AIA Philadelphia Bookstore in the city on Sunday, because they are having a sale as well. We have also order Insomnia Cookies to our dorm. I gotta say, THESE COOKIES ARE AMAZING!
But yeah, school is fun, but stressful. I have made friends, but I also miss all my friends back at home. I'm hoping Bo will come visit me soon, when we both aren't overwhelmed with work. School food is okay, not bad, but kinda tired of a lot of it. I have been exploring all our eating places though. We kind of have a Starbucks; I had a Mocha today and it was really good! (Miss Jessica, I'm becoming addicted to Starbucks! Haha.) On Thursday, they have really good chicken tenders in Common Thread...I have had them both Thursday's I have been here. But I need to use the gym...or skate. :/ I really miss skating! But I think I found a way to get to the rink, so I will try to go do that soon! :)
Anyways, I should probably start some homework. Feel free to comment! :)
OH and sorry the pictures are not all oriented properly...I am working on it.
